Sunset at Siskiyou by Greg Brown

Southern Pacific’s business car 150, the “Sunset,” is about to enter the summit tunnel at Siskiyou, Oregon in August 1987. That day, SP had run an Officers’ Special to Ashland, commemorating the centennial of the Siskiyou Line and the 50th anniversary of the O&C Timberlands Act.
After a public ceremony in Ashland, the train hauled dignitaries up to Siskiyou for an exclusive dinner enroute. Both of Oregon’s US Senators were aboard. After the guests were unloaded, the train continued on its return to Oakland.
Bob Melbo, Assistant Superintendant of the Oregon Division, was standing next to me when I took this photo. As the train disappeared into Tunnel 13, he quipped, “I sure hope the D'Autremonts aren’t down at the other end!”
